COMMODITY - EDIBLE OIL SUMMARY

Wheat is a versatile agricultural crop, and Brazil plays a significant role in the production and export of this commodity. Brazil has increased its wheat exports in recent years, but still relies on imports to meet domestic demand.

01Types of Wheat Grains

There are several types of wheat grains, each with its own characteristics and uses. Here are some of the most common types:

Bakery Wheat (T. aestivum)

This is the most common type of wheat and is responsible for much of the worlds production.

Durum Wheat (T. durum)

This type of wheat is commonly used to prepare pasta, as it contains a good amount of protein.

Einkorn (T. monococcum)

Popular for its high protein concentration, Einkorn wheat has the highest amount of lutein among wheat species.

Wheat Grains Classification

Wheat grains are classified into types 1, 2, and 3 based on their weight, amount of impurities, and defects.

Furthermore, wheat grains are classified into three types, 1, 2 and 3, according to their weight, amount of impurities and defects. Grains intended for milling, after going through this process and being classified according to type, are generally intended for food preparation. Each type of wheat has its own characteristics and uses, making wheat a very versatile agricultural crop.

02Types of Supply Contracts

There are several types of supply contracts in agribusiness for the supply of wheat:

Contract for the Supply of Agricultural Products

These contracts are made between producers and agribusinesses, stipulating the supply of products from agriculture or livestock.

Agricultural Input Supply Contract

This contract regulates the relationship between the input supplier and the producer, ensuring quality inputs.

Futures Contracts

Wheat futures are traded on several exchanges such as CBOT, Euronext, KCBT, and MGEX. The standard contract unit is 5,000 bushels.

Specific Supply Contracts for Wheat

In Brazil, CONAB establishes specific contracts for wheat supply for family farmers, rural producers, and their cooperatives.

Each type of contract has its own characteristics and requirements, and it is important for producers and buyers to understand these details before entering into a contract.

03Wheat Export

Brazil has significantly increased its wheat exports in recent years. Here are some details about wheat exports from Brazil:

Exports in 2021/22

Brazils wheat exports in 2021/22 reached a record 3 million tons.

Exports in December

Brazil traditionally exports good volumes of wheat in December, especially from Rio Grande do Sul.

Record Harvest

Brazil harvested a record 7.8 million tons of wheat but still needs to import around 7.5 million tons annually.

Export Destinations

Brazils wheat exports are primarily destined for countries in Africa and Asia.

These data indicate that Brazil is reducing its external dependence on wheat. However, there is still a delicate balance between domestic production, consumer demand and import needs.
